Islamic psychology, rooted in the timeless wisdom of the Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his Ahl ul Bayt, offers a holistic framework for achieving balance and inner peace. For Dawoodi Bohras, this approach is enriched by the guidance of the Dai al-Mutlaq, His Holiness Syedna Aaliqadr Mufaddal Saifuddin, whose leadership provides clarity and direction, ensuring alignment with the Fatimid legacy. This article explores ten common challenges faced by Muslims and how our community’s adherence to the Dai’s teachings safeguards us from these struggles, offering practical self-help strategies to foster mental and spiritual well-being.

The Islamic Model of the Self

<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" intellect (‘aql), self (nafs), and spirit (rūḥ). These elements interact dynamically, shaping our thoughts, emotions, and actions. The qalb is the spiritual and emotional core, where faith and Taqwa (God-consciousness) reside. The ‘aql guides ethical decisions, ensuring alignment with divine principles. The nafs exists in stages—al-nafs al-ammārah (commanding self), al-nafs al-lawwāmah (self-reproaching self), and al-nafs al-muṭma’innah (tranquil self)—reflecting the journey from base desires to spiritual serenity. The rūḥ, a divine spark, connects us to Allah, fostering a sense of purpose.

<picture></picture>

<g>

</g><polyline points="15 3 21 3 21 9"></polyline><polyline points="9 21 3 21 3 15"></polyline><line x1="21" x2="14" y1="3" y2="10"></line><line x1="3" x2="10" y1="21" y2="14"></line>

For Dawoodi Bohras, the Dai al-Mutlaq provides authoritative interpretations of these concepts, drawing from the teachings of Ahl ul Bayt. His guidance ensures that we understand and apply this model to achieve mental and spiritual harmony, avoiding the fragmentation that can arise from a lack of clarity.

Ten Safeguards Against Common Challenges

Many Muslims face challenges that stem from diverse interpretations of faith and modern societal pressures. The Dawoodi Bohra community, under the Dai’s leadership, is protected from these struggles, as his teachings provide a unified and pure source of wisdom rooted in the Fatimid tradition. Below, we address ten common challenges and how our community overcomes them.

Clarity in Guidance

Many Muslims face uncertainty about where to seek help due to conflicting scholarly opinions, a challenge rooted in historical divisions following the Prophet’s passing. Dawoodi Bohras, however, rely on the Dai al-Mutlaq as the sole source of guidance. His sermons, writings, and personal audiences provide clear direction, ensuring we know where to turn in times of need. For example, during Ashara Mubaraka, the Dai’s discourses offer insights into navigating life’s challenges, fostering confidence and clarity.

Purity of Knowledge

Confusion over what constitutes valid Islamic knowledge is common, with diverse fatwas and interpretations creating uncertainty. For Dawoodi Bohras, the Dai’s teachings, derived from the Ahl ul Bayt, ensure purity and authenticity. His guidance clarifies what Islam permits and prioritizes, eliminating doubt and aligning our actions with divine principles.

Integrating Faith and Knowledge

Some Muslims mistakenly view secular knowledge as incompatible with faith, rejecting valuable insights. The Dawoodi Bohra community embraces both deen (faith) and dunya (worldly life), as encouraged by the Dai. As stated on our official website, “It befits our brethren, may Allah give them strength, to not despise any field of knowledge, or shun a particular book, or bear prejudice towards a certain faith. Indeed our philosophy and our faith encompass all faiths and all knowledge” (The Dawoodi Bohras). Institutions like Aljamea-tus-Saifiyah and MSB Educational Institute exemplify this integration, offering both Islamic and modern education.

Recognizing Allah as the Source of All Knowledge

Forgetting that all knowledge originates from Allah can lead to a fragmented worldview. Dawoodi Bohras are taught to pursue knowledge in all fields, from sciences to arts, knowing that the Dai helps us align these with divine truth. This approach, rooted in the Fatimid tradition of intellectual flourishing, ensures a holistic understanding of knowledge as a divine gift.

Freedom from Fear of Betrayal

Some Muslims fear that engaging with non-traditional practices betrays their faith. Dawoodi Bohras trust in the Dai’s authorization, which allows us to explore modern knowledge and practices without guilt, as long as they align with Islamic principles. This confidence stems from the Dai’s role as the representative of Ahl ul Bayt, ensuring our actions remain faithful.

Balanced Approach to Rituals

Over-reliance on rituals like dua or Quran recitation without reflection can limit personal growth. Dawoodi Bohras are encouraged to combine rituals with action and introspection. The Dai’s teachings emphasize implementing faith through practical efforts, such as community service or personal development, ensuring a dynamic and impactful spiritual life.

Connection to Islamic Psychological Scholarship

Many Muslims are unaware of Islamic scholarship on psychology, which has addressed mental health for centuries. The Dai al-Mutlaq connects us to this tradition, exploring the interplay of qalb, ‘aql, nafs, and rūḥ. This knowledge, passed down through the Ahl ul Bayt, equips us to address mental health holistically.

Harmonizing Worldviews

Adopting secular worldviews that conflict with Islamic principles can create dissonance. Dawoodi Bohras, guided by the Dai, maintain a worldview that harmonizes faith with worldly success. Our achievements in business, education, and community initiatives, such as Project Rise, reflect this balance, driven by the Dai’s emphasis on ethical and spiritual integrity.

Integrated Understanding of the Self

A fragmented view of the self—lacking understanding of how nafs, qalb, ‘aql, and rūḥ interact—can hinder well-being. The Dai’s teachings provide a clear model, illustrating the nafs’s stages (al-ammārah, al-lawwāmah, al-muṭma’innah) and the roles of qalb, ‘aql, and rūḥ. This holistic understanding fosters balance and spiritual growth.

Openness to Seeking Help

Shame or fear of weak faith can lead some Muslims to suffer in silence. Dawoodi Bohras are encouraged to seek knowledge and support within the community, knowing that addressing struggles strengthens faith. The Dai’s guidance fosters an environment where seeking help is a sign of commitment to personal and spiritual growth.

Practical Steps for Mental and Spiritual Well-being

To apply Islamic psychology in daily life, Dawoodi Bohras can adopt these practical strategies, inspired by the Dai’s teachings and the legacy of Ahl ul Bayt:

Attend Majalis Regularly: Participate in religious gatherings to gain spiritual insights and community support. The Dai’s discourses during events like Ashara Mubaraka provide actionable guidance for navigating challenges.

Engage in Dhikr: Practice remembrance of Allah through supplications like “La ilaha illallah” to center the heart and reduce stress. What if the roots of this system, stretching back to ancient Greece and echoing through a dusty meeting place called Sakifa, reveal not a blessing but a curse? Buckle up, because we’re about to unravel the sanctity of democracy and expose it for what it might truly be: a fitnah, a trial, a tool of destruction masquerading as progress.

The Birth of Democracy: A Flawed Experiment

Democracy as we know it first flickered to life in ancient Athens around the 5th century BCE. Picture this: a gathering of free male citizens—women, slaves, and foreigners excluded—debating laws and policies in a chaotic assembly. It was a radical departure from the iron grip of kings and tyrants, a bold experiment in collective power. Yet, it was no paradise. The masses were swayed by cunning orators, leading to blunders like the Sicilian Expedition—a democratic decision that nearly annihilated Athens during the Peloponnesian War.

Fast forward to the Enlightenment, and democracy was reborn like dirty weed in the fiery crucibles of the American and French Revolutions. It promised liberty, equality, and justice, but its flaws lingered: exclusion, manipulation, and the tyranny of the majority. From its inception, democracy was less a perfect ideal and more a fragile compromise — a system that could elevate or destroy, depending on who wielded its reins.

<div Kings, emperors, and warlords ruled by divine right, brute force, or noble blood. It was a brutal game of survival of the fittest, where power was seized and held by the strong. A weak ruler was a dead ruler, toppled by a rival with sharper steel or a keener mind. The masses? Mere spectators in a theater of conquest.

Yet, there was a raw clarity to it. A capable king united a fractured land, built empires, and imposed order on chaos. Alexander the Great carved a legacy across continents; Prophet Mohammed SAW turned deserts into centers of civilization. Contrast that with democracy’s endless debates and gridlock — where decisive action often drowns in a sea of voices. The rule of kings valued strength over consensus, and while it could be tyrannical, it was rarely paralyzed.

Prosperity Beyond Democracy

History whispers a secret: prosperity doesn’t need democracy. Governments that empowered their people and offered a high standard of living—whether monarchies, empires, or councils—were magnets for travelers and settlers. Ancient Rome under Augustus thrived with roads, aqueducts, and peace, not ballots. The Fatimid Golden Age sparkled under Imams AS who fostered science and culture without a hint of democratic fanfare. Even today, Singapore’s blend of authoritarianism and economic brilliance draws the ambitious from every corner of the globe.

These places were considered blessed not because they let everyone vote, but because they delivered stability, opportunity, and a vision that transcended petty squabbles. Democracy might claim the moral high ground, but it’s not the only path to a flourishing society—or even the best one.

The Illusion Unveiled: Elon Musk’s Revelation

Enter Elon Musk, a modern titan whose recent tweet cuts through democracy’s facade like a blade: both Republicans and Democrats, he suggests, are mere puppets of a satanic cult pulling strings behind the scenes. Hyperbole? Perhaps. But it’s a gut punch to the myth of democratic purity. Is this what democracy is for? A grand theater where we cheer for rival teams, oblivious to the fact that the game is rigged by the same shadowy masters?

Look closer, and the cracks widen. Lobbyists, corporations, and secretive elites shape policy while we clutch our ballots like talismans. The military-industrial complex thrives on endless wars; media empires mold our minds with surgical precision. The “will of the people” becomes a hollow echo, drowned out by the clinking of coins and the whispers of power. If Musk is right, democracy isn’t our savior—it’s our shackles.

Democracy’s Dark Secrets: Conspiracies and Deception

Which democracy has truly prospered in our age without blood on its hands? Peel back the pages of history, and the stains emerge. The assassination of JFK—an insider job, some say, to silence a maverick. The Gulf of Tonkin, a fabricated spark for Vietnam. The 9/11 attacks, a pretext for invasions cloaked in lies about weapons of mass destruction. These aren’t fringe theories anymore; they’re shadows cast by a system that thrives on deceit.

If democracy is the rule of the people, why do its leaders orchestrate plane crashes into buildings or stage coups to invade sovereign lands? The answer is chilling: power doesn’t bow to truth. Even in democracies, those at the top will sacrifice integrity to cling to control. The prosperity we see—skyscrapers, highways, technology—may be built on a foundation of manipulation and betrayal.

The Rise of the Non-Democratic: China and the UAE

While democracies stumble, other systems soar. China, with its communist iron fist, has lifted millions from poverty, built gleaming cities, and challenged the world’s mightiest powers—all without a whisper of democratic chaos. The UAE, a monarchy of sand and vision, offers its people a standard of living that dazzles the globe: safety, wealth, and ambition realized in glass and steel.

These nations scoff at democracy’s playbook. They plan decades ahead, unburdened by election cycles or populist noise. Their people may lack a vote, but they have homes, jobs, and pride—things many democratic citizens can only dream of amid rising inequality and crumbling infrastructure. If prosperity and stability are the measures of success, are we fools to cling to democracy as the gold standard?

God’s Silence on Democracy
<div God doesn’t champion the rule of the people; He anoints His chosen ones. Prophets, kings, messiahs—these are the vessels of divine will, not assemblies of clamoring voices. The Quran speaks of shura (consultation), but it’s a far cry from majority rule; it’s guidance, not governance by ballot.

“Allah is the best of planners,” declares the Quran (8:30). So why do we defy that perfection with a system that hands the reins to flawed, fickle humans? Democracy assumes we know better than the divine—a presumption that borders on blasphemy. God’s plan unfolds through His messengers, not through the chaos of the crowd.

The Wisdom of Reliance

An intelligent man, it’s said, places full reliance on Allah TA for what he cannot control. Why, then, do we entrust our fate to politicians—strangers with hidden agendas, cloaked in charisma or corruption? Democracy asks us to believe in the collective wisdom of the masses, yet history shows how easily that wisdom turns to madness: witch hunts, wars, economic collapses—all born of popular will gone astray.

To rely on God is to embrace humility, to admit that human systems are frail and fleeting. Democracy, with its parades and promises, seduces us into thinking we’re masters of our destiny. But are we? Or are we pawns in a game we don’t even understand?

Democracy as Fitnah: A Satanic Design

Here’s the mind-blower: what if democracy is a fitnah, a trial crafted by satanic forces to plunge the world into chaos? Not a mere flaw, but a deliberate weapon to fracture societies, erode faith, and pave the way for tyranny over the ashes. Look around—polarized nations, moral decay, endless conflict. Democracy promises unity but delivers division; it vows freedom but breeds servitude to unseen powers.

This isn’t just rhetoric. If Musk’s tweet holds a kernel of truth, if elites puppeteer our leaders, then democracy is the perfect Trojan horse: give people the illusion of control while the real rulers tighten their grip. The endgame? Self-destruction, a world in ruins, and a new order rising from the wreckage.

Sakifa: The Original Sin of Collective Choice

Now, to Sakifa—the spark of this curse. In 632 CE, after the Prophet Muhammad’s SAW passing away, a group of companions gathered at Saqifah Banu Sa’idah to choose his successor. It was called as democracy but not as we’d define it—no ballots, no universal vote—just a hurried consultation amid grief and urgency. What emerged was not without dissent. The loudest voices won; and the true voice was silenced.

The result? A wound still bleeding today. For the Muslim of today living in a democratic nation, it is a curse to experience it in everyday life. Sakifa wasn’t a triumph of collective wisdom—it was a failure of process, a lesson in how group decisions can fracture what was meant to endure. If this is democracy’s ancestor, then its curse is in its DNA: the triumph of noise over truth, of power over purpose, of right to rule over being on the right way.

The Final Provocation

So where does this leave us? Democracy, heralded as humanity’s crown jewel, may be its Achilles’ heel. It’s a system that dazzles with ideals but falters in practice—vulnerable to deceit, division, and the erosion of divine order. China and the UAE thrive without it; scripture ignores it; Sakifa warns against it. Even our modern icons, like Musk, see through its veneer.

Imagine a world where we abandon this obsession. A governance rooted not in the fickle will of the many, but in wisdom, stability, and divine guidance. Not a return to despots, but a rejection of the lie that human votes alone can chart the course. “Allah is the best of planners”—why, then, do we plan so poorly to follow His word.

As you sit with this, let it sink in: Is democracy our destiny, or our delusion? Are we its architects, or its victims? The truth may burn, but it’s in that fire that we find clarity. Sakifa’s curse lingers—not as a relic, but as a mirror. Look into it, and decide what you see.

Thanks for reading Abdesyedna! The alarm clock showed 4:30 AM. My bed, still warm from seven hours of deep sleep, beckoned me back with its siren call. My mind conjured perfectly reasonable excuses: "You deserve more rest," it whispered. "You worked hard yesterday," it reasoned. My hand hovered over the snooze button on my mobile screen.

In that moment of hesitation lies the ancient battlefield where every meaningful victory in life begins.

The Enemy Within and Saturn's Discipline

What stands between you and your greatest achievements isn't external obstacles but an internal adversary that the Islamic tradition identifies with perfect precision: the nafs ammara bi al-su – the soul that commands to evil.

In the 4th Moharrum waaz, Syedna al-Dai al-Ajal TUS taught us about Zohal (Saturn) – the celestial body whose defining attributes are discipline and jafaakashi (endurance through hardship). Known as the taskmaster of the cosmos, Saturn teaches through trials and perseverance. Those under its influence are drawn to labor-intensive tasks, embodying the farmer who tills, sows, and harvests with painstaking effort at the proper time.

I could relate this wisdom similar to what former Navy SEAL commander Jocko Willink writes in his book "Discipline Equals Freedom: Field Manual." Willink's core message – "Discipline equals freedom" – echoes the paradoxical truth that real liberation comes through structured constraint. As he bluntly puts it: "Don't count on motivation. Count on discipline."

Moula’s TUS Field Manual

While Jocko offers a military-style field manual for life discipline, Moula TUS provides Mumineen with something even more profound – a spiritual field manual for defeating the nafs. Both recognize an essential truth: freedom doesn't come from (impulsively) doing whatever you feel like but from mastering those feelings.

In the waaz, Syedna al-Dai al-Ajal TUS declared, "Discipline is the key to success," emphasizing that discipline and jafaakashi are essential qualities for every Mumin. Like Jocko's direct, no-excuses approach, Moula TUS clearly outlines actionable guidance – not just philosophical concepts.

When Jocko writes, "There is no shortcut. There is no hack. There's only one way: Get after it," he echoes the essence of Rasul Allah's SAW counsel to Usama: "To remain thirsty in the harshest of heat and to break the soul's inclination towards worldly pleasures." The only path forward is through it. Rasul Allah SAW gave this instructional advice 1400 years ago. Jocko writes it in 2017.

Saturn's Cold Logic vs. Fiery Desires

<picture></picture>

<g>

</g><polyline points="15 3 21 3 21 9"></polyline><polyline points="9 21 3 21 3 15"></polyline><line x1="21" x2="14" y1="3" y2="10"></line><line x1="3" x2="10" y1="21" y2="14"></line>

Saturn's nature, as Moula TUS explained, is defined by dryness and coldness – qualities directly opposed to the heat of impulsive desires. Sometimes, to bring about betterment, there is a need to break the existing order of things. Just as a seed must rupture for new growth to emerge, our comfortable patterns must sometimes be broken for discipline to take root. Some hardships come to break you so that a stronger you is born - a more intellectual and mindful person.

This cosmic symbolism gives us a powerful framework: when our nafs burns hot with immediate desires, we need Saturn's cooling discipline to temper the flame. When we feel the pull of comfort and ease, we need Saturn's hardening influence to strengthen our resolve.

The Masculine Path of Conquest

There exists a distinctly masculine energy in the confrontation with the nafs – one of direct combat and unwavering determination. This warrior spirit recognizes that desires must sometimes be conquered rather than accommodated.

Jocko embodies this approach with his famous 4:30 AM wake-ups and "get after it" mentality. His philosophy – "Default: Aggressive" – teaches that when in doubt, we should take immediate action rather than hesitate or procrastinate.

This mirrors what we see in Maulana Ali Akbar AS in Karbala, who, despite three days of terrible thirst, rejected the enemy's offer of water and safety. His discipline wasn't passive or comfortable – it was built through directly facing his physical needs and saying no to them.

The Feminine Wisdom of Transformation

Yet focusing only on this fighting approach gives us just half the picture. There exists equally powerful feminine wisdom in defeating the nafs – not through combat but through change.

The feminine way teaches us that long-lasting discipline doesn't come from constant fighting against ourselves. Instead, it comes from making our actions match our deepest values. This involves mindfully and deeply thinking about it. It shows us that our desires can be slowly reshaped rather than battled forever.

This reminds me of a respected mumina in our community whose discipline in FMB thaali khidmat surpasses many men I know. When I asked her secret, expecting tales of struggle and willpower, she offered unexpected wisdom: "I don't fight my desires".

Her discipline wasn't born from continuous struggle but from nurturing such deep muhabbat (love) for her service that it became what she truly wanted to do. Like a mother who doesn't see caring for her child as giving up comfort but as showing love, she had changed what she wanted through connection rather than conflict.

The Daily Sacrifice of Parents

This principle finds its most beautiful expression in the quiet heroism of parents – particularly in how a father or mother will silently sacrifice their own comforts for their family's needs.

I remember watching my own father, year after year, all the silent sacrifices he made. This wasn't just parental love – it was profound nafs-mastery under Saturn's influence. Like the farmer who endures backbreaking labor today for tomorrow's harvest, many fathers understand that delayed gratification produces the sweetest fruits.

Practical Discipline Through Saturn's Lens

The waaz relates the timeless narrative of Mulla Raja QR, who, having delayed his namaz to complete his weaving, rushed to draw water for wudu only to find the bucket filled with gold and silver coins. His response? He threw them back and drew again, only to find precious gemstones. Again, he rejected them. The third time, water emerged.

This story beautifully illustrates Saturn's disciplining influence – the ability to reject immediate rewards for greater purposes. As Jocko might say: "Discipline equals freedom" – Mulla Raja's discipline in rejecting worldly treasures freed him to fulfill his spiritual obligation.

Real Steps Forward

To harness Saturn's disciplining power against your nafs, you may try these straightforward practices:

1. Adopt Jocko's "Wake up early" principle – Start your day before dawn for fajr namaaz, giving yourself the quiet victory that sets the tone for all that follows

2. Create a "discipline ritual" – A specific set of daily actions that strengthen your ability to choose discomfort over ease when necessary. Giving up processed sugar for example.

3. Find meaningful service that initially feels challenging – Use Saturn's endurance quality to push through the initial resistance

4. Practice occasional fasting beyond Ramadan – As Moula TUS explained, remaining "thirsty in the harshest heat" trains the nafs to submit to higher purposes. Rajab ul Asab is a great opportunity to train your spirit.

5. Keep company with the disciplined – Their Saturn-like influence will naturally strengthen your own resolve

The Final Test

The true measure of discipline isn't found in occasional heroic efforts but in consistent small choices. As the waaz reminds us, Siraat-e-Mustaqeem is "narrower than a sword's blade" and "finer than a strand of hair." Our discipline must extend beyond dramatic moments to the small details of daily life.

Jocko writes: "There is no such thing as a minor lapse in discipline." This echoes the cosmic truth of Saturn – the planet whose influence demands consistency and order. Under Saturn's watchful eye, every small choice matters, every moment offers a chance to strengthen or weaken our discipline.

---

I've come to see that defeating the nafs with Saturn's help isn't about destroying a part of ourselves but about putting things in their proper order. The nafs has its legitimate role – keeping us alive and well – but it must remain the servant rather than becoming the master.

And as for that 4:30 AM alarm? I've learned that the hardest part isn't getting my body out of bed – it's turning my mind away from all those reasonable-sounding excuses - sometimes all you need is 1 excuse to give up. But with each win in that internal battle, Saturn's disciplining influence grows stronger within you and me.

Moula TUS teaches us through the wisdom of Zohal: discipline is the key to success in both this world and the next.

Abdesyedna Moez

Subscribe now

Do You Doze Off in Waaz Mubarak?

Jannat ni hawa chaale che

Abdesyedna Moez

It happens to the most devoted among us. As we sit in the masjid, surrounded by our brothers and sisters, listening to the blessed words of Waaz Mubarak, our eyelids grow heavy. The gentle cadence of the Moula (TUS) voice or any Waaz Karnar Saheb’s voice, the warmth of bodies gathered in devotion, and the peaceful atmosphere conspire to lull us into momentary slumber. If you've ever caught yourself nodding off during these sacred bayaans, know that you are not alone in this experience.

There is a beautiful belief that during Imam Hussain AS majlis, farishta saayo kare che ane jannat ni hawa chaale che — angels cast their shadows and the breezes of paradise flow through the gathering. This divine presence creates an atmosphere of profound peace and tranquility that naturally affects our physical beings. Our bodies, constantly in motion throughout a normal week, suddenly finds stillness. Our minds, typically racing with worldly concerns, are invited into a sacred space. Is it any wonder that in this moment of divine peace, as jannat ni hawa surrounds us, that our physical forms might surrender to rest? Yet as I reflect on my own experiences of drifting between wakefulness and sleep during these precious bayaans and riwayaats, I find myself wondering: what might we be missing in these moments of unintended rest?

The irony is not lost on me: we attend Waaz to nourish our souls with ilm, to strengthen our imaan, and to connect more deeply with our faith and community. Yet precisely when these spiritual nutrients are being offered most abundantly, our physical bodies sometimes fail us. I've watched as dedicated mumineen fight this battle with heavy eyelids, employing various tactics—shifting positions, sipping water, or quietly reaching for a mint to stay alert. We do this because we understand, on some level, that while the peace we feel is a blessing, the knowledge being imparted is an even greater one.

In order to take full advantage of the Waaz Mubarak and especially Imam Hussain AS majlis, I have developed a personal preparation routine that has significantly improved my ability to remain alert and receptive:

Prioritize proper sleep - Ensuring 7-8 hours of quality rest the night before is essential. As neuroscientist Dr. Matthew Walker explains in his groundbreaking book "Why We Sleep," adequate sleep directly impacts our cognitive function and attention span. This preparation aligns perfectly with the expectation of no work, as we are encouraged to refrain from worldly business during the 9 days of Moharram, focusing instead on the zikr of Imam Hussain AS.

Create a written morning plan - Before sleeping, I make a detailed list of morning tasks—from freshening up to fajr namaaz and breakfast—with approximate times allocated for each. This practice, similar to what productivity expert David Allen recommends in "Getting Things Done," helps create what he calls a "mind like water"—calm and prepared. Importantly, I use pen and paper rather than my phone, keeping digital distractions at bay during this sacred days. Scrolling on the phone is an excellent time waster that will also add guilt to your mood and experience.

Strategic caffeine consumption - About an hour before waaz, I consume 50-100mg of caffeine via a strong cup of tea or coffee (without milk to avoid unnecessary calories). Moderate to high caffeine consumption can enhance focus and alertness when used intentionally rather than habitually. Somedays 200mg caffeine tablets helps to stay alert and focused throughout the Waaz.

Pre-waaz exercise - Perhaps most surprisingly effective is a 30-40 minute exercise session before preparing for waaz. I aim to raise my heart rate to a target of 150 minus my age (in beats per minute) for at least 5 minutes. Aerobic exercise primes the brain for learning by increasing BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor), essentially fertilizing or oiling our neural pathways. You will store more ilm, remember more and possibly for longer period.

These preparations acknowledge a simple truth: our mind and bodies require transition time. The sudden shift from our regular routine to the keeping up to the schedule of Waaz, Majlis, Talaqqi Sessions, etc. demands intentional preparation. Without this calibration period and techniques, our physical systems can feel overwhelmed, making drowsiness almost inevitable despite our spiritual enthusiasm.

Tell me what are some of your ways to beat the jhokas.

Iltemaas ud dua!

Thanks for reading Abdesyedna! 1456w" sizes="100vw" fetchpriority="high"></picture>

It is imperative for a Mumin to realise by now, what did Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin RA meant by his mubarak words, “har Dai Quran ni Surat che”. Many of us (including me, initially) limited our thinking to only acknowledge that Lailatul Qadr is the Milaad of our beloved Moula TUS.

So what does Suratul Qadr assert about Lailatul Qadr?

Is it the night, when the entire Quran ul Majeed descended from heavens?

Is it the night, when Malae’kat descend from heavens to listen all the duas till dawn?

Is it the night, which is better than 1000 months?

Yes, but what more?

1. The fehwa of the first aayat is “Hame utara ehne Lailatul Qadr ma”. The general understanding is that “Lailatul Qadr ma Quran utara gaya che” , Correct ? Yes, but what is more astonishing is the fact that the aayat sharifa starts with “اناء”, the adad of which is ’53’. This word ‘اناء’ also reminds me of Al Jamea Al Anwar (Mosque of Imam Haakim AS in Misr). It is that Jamea which, Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin RA, considered to be a reason for barakaat in Dawat. The words inscribed in this masjid “……هذا الفتى…..” (see 100th Milaad theme and last zikra majlis banner below) directs towards 51st, 52nd and 53rd Dai Mutlaq. And the word which refers to 53rd Dai Mutlaq is – “اناء”. So, the Quran pronounces that the 53rd is descended on Earth in Lailatul Qadr.

2. It is the night when Aaliqadr Moula TUS descended from heavens to answers all prayers. “Satr no zamaan” is a metaphor for “Satr ni raat”. Since ‘Satr’ means night so Fajr implies ‘Zamaan of Zuhoor’. The Suratul Qadr states that “Malae’kat will be present till dawn to listen all prayers and duas”. This derives me, that Moula Aaliqadr TUS is that farishta who will be present until “Fajr”.

3. 1000th year after the seclusion of Moulana Imam Tayyeb AS has started. This implies to me that the Zaman of Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin TUS is ‘khair’ than 1000 years of or 1000 Ramadaans in Satr.

What more about Lailatul Qadr?
The munajaat shareefa which is written by Moula TUS in every Lailatul Qadr is atleast to be read once after Lailatul Qadr. Believe me, it opens many closed doors.
Going back, I clearly remember that Lailatul Qadr Munajaat Shareefa of Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin RA in the year of 100th Milaad Mubarak, which further validates my tasawwur, in which He RA delivered “He RA acknowledges that your Imaam AS will perform Zuhoor when 100 meets 1000”.

The theme of 100th Milaad Mubarak displayed the convergence of 100 & 1000.

<picture></picture>

Since 100th Milaad Mubarak is over, my tasawwur is attracted to a place which has a significant place in the history of and present Dawat and the adad of its letters add to – 100. It is the World’s Largest Annual Peaceful Gathering with 30 million plus zayereen from around the world gathered to mark the 40th day of shahadat of Imam Hussain AS. If you have ever been blessed to visit Najaf e Ashraf and Karbala during Arbaeen and you have been fortunate to walk from Najaf to Karbala, you may be well accustomed to the pictures because, they are a very common sight then.

What are the Iraqis doing which is worth a mention?

Iraq economy is shattered since the US invasion in year 2003 and there has been no stable government of the state since then. 15 years since then, scores of people have been killed in terrorist attacks, civil war and other crimes. Then, on the other hand, 30 million people are known to visit the country every year for Arbaeen, so THEY HAVE A BRILLIANT OPPORTUNITY. Local businesses have a chance to prosper and make a great buck all the way to Karbala which is an 80 km walk. Iraqis can provide hundreds of services to these zayereen and make a living enough for a full year.

BUT THEY DONT.

Instead, everything from transportation from borders of Iraq to Najaf and many other destinations are provided free of cost. Shelters for sleeping, living, blankets, pillows, food, water, clothes, toiletries and everything needed for their stay is provided free of cost. Widowed women are preparing food in their mud/brick houses and their children distributes it to zayereen on their walk to Karbala, without collecting a penny. If you try to give them money, they feel offended. All they want is Imam Hussain AS and Rasulullah SAW’s happiness and acceptance, by way, of their khidmats. They BEG you for letting them a chance to polish your shoes, THEY BEG YOU TO TAKE SOMETHING FROM THEM, they kiss your feet before massaging them and washing them, they stand in your way pleasing you to allow them to give a massage and refreshments. Cobblers eagerly wait for a chance to stitch a Zayereen’s shoe. Children wait with fruits in a small vessel in your way offering you everything they have got. They are well aware that they may not be able to eat such fruits, sandwiches, biryanis and other nonveg delicacies during any other time of the year, but then also they just give. Homeless people of Iraq, who have nothing to give you but a free towel and tissue to dry your sweat and sprinkle you with some water so you do not feel tired. Mechanics close their shops and sit on the road, repairing wheelchairs, strollers and baby prams.

Businesses in Iraq sets up food counters, medical camps along the walking route, transport cars & buses, etc all provided at no cost, so the Zayereen can have an easy stay in Karbala. These days are the biggest Thanksgiving Festival of Middle East.

If the Iraqis were to charge the Zayereen for all these necessary services during the 40 days from shahadat of Imam Hussain AS, believe me, the Iraqi economy can come back on its feet again in a couple of years. So what are these people earning then?

KHUSHI OF IMAM HUSSAIN AS

Iraqis are showing the world, how much they value a Zayereen of Imam Hussain AS in their hearts. And how much faith they have in Imam Hussain AS to provide them sustenance throughout the year.

Now, coming to the point, INDORE, you invited Aqa Moula TUS to your city again and again for Ashara 1440 and your wish is fulfilled. MUMINEEN WILL COME. MUMINEEN will come shutting their houses and businesses – businesses small like a watch repairing shop or multi-million dollar factories, taking leaves from jobs or even resigning from jobs. MUMINEEN will come from the world over and from towns and cities hundreds of km far, to your city for 10 to 15 days during Ashara Mubaraka.

One of the main concerns, an AZADAAR OF IMAM HUSSAIN AS has during these days is Accommodation in the city in which AQA MOULA TUS will perform Noha Aweel.

Few questions to those Indorians brothers who haven’t understood what they stand to gain in the upcoming Ashara Mubaraka,

Q) Are you willing to profit from providing accommodation to Mumimeen?

Q) Will you be able to justify profits made from providing shelter to Mehmano who have come with the only intention of doing Imam Hussain’s Azadari with Aqa Moula TUS?

Q) Are you aware that many Mumineen who may not be able to afford accommodation, will not be willing to come for Imam Hussain AS azadaari with Aqa Moula TUS?

The situation in Iraq (for that matter any other country) shows us that the government cannot provide food & shelter for the massive numbers of Zayereen, it is the residents who must WILLINGLY ACCEPT IT AS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY. Similarly, it is practically very difficult for the Indore Jamaat to provide accommodation to all Mehmano, unless Mumineen of Indore City accept it as their responsibility towards Imam Hussain AS and Aqa Moula TUS. Mumineen have done ohbat for 40 days by hailing Labbaik Ya Hussain and will be present with Aqa Moula TUS for Imam Hussain’s azadaari wherever it may be.

BUT YOU HAVE GOT THIS CHANCE AFTER 17 YEARS OF WAIT, MAKE IT COUNT !!

As you may have understood, there is NO PROFIT OTHER THAN THE KHUSHI of Imam Hussain AS and his Dai Aqa Moula TUS, during the period of Ashara Mubaraka. And one may not need a big house to earn profits, only true love & faith in Imam Hussain AS is enough.

Aqa Moula TUS has stated many times, RAZIK IS ALLAH, RAZIK IS HUSSAIN !!

As someone quoted, Beauty lies in the eyes of the Beholder, I conclude this by quoting, Contentment lies in the heart of the Giver.

Abdesyedna TUS

Moez

**Edit:

1) This is my tasawwur which I take in my heart. Moula RA’s bayan mubarak is always filled with seas of Ilm. How much Ilm did one take home, depended on size and quality of the vessel they bought along.

One of such bayan mubarak included a Vasiyat of Moula TUS which created a strong impression on my vessel – such that I can still hear that voice and see him on takht mubarak.

Please excuse, as I cannot put the exact words. Moula RA delivered, “Mumineen ni Jama’at ! Jeware Imam uz Zaman AS tashrif lawe anetamare puche ke tame koun cho? Te waqt su jawaab deso?

Jawaab em araz karjo ke tame “من” (MAN) na logo cho. Mohammed, ali, fatema, hasan ane hussaiN ni mohabbat karo cho. Moreover, Syedna Taher Saifuddin RA has conferred upon Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin RA the title of ‘M’ansoor ul Yeme’N’

This implies that Imam uz Zaman AS will only recognise people of ‘من’. Therefore, on the day of Zuhoor, Mumineen will be required to know who and what is ‘من’.

Since Moula Mohammed Burhanuddin RA has already reached in the Qadam Mubarak of Imam uz Zaman AS, he has left us with a replica of his – ‘M’ufaddal Saifuddi’N’ – who is a Mumin’s ‘من’ in the hazrat of Imam uz Zaman AS.

The Quran also recognises Aqa Moula Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin TUS by the name. Yes, if you have guessed it right, in the Surat ul Qadr. (May I have enough life and tawfeeq, to word my Tasawwur on this AALI QADR SURAT OF QURAN). Surat ul Qadr consists of 30 words signifying 30 days of Ramadaan ul Moazzam. Count each word one by one upto the 23 rd word…..and Viola !! You have reached ‘من’. There are no mumineen who are not aware that the night of 23rd Ramadaan is the Milaad Mubarak of our Beloved Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin TUS. The night in which the entire QURAN were descended from Jannat.

There is a Zikr of Rasulullah SAW, where He SAW foretells an era in which buka and matam of Imam Hussain AS will be done the most. Rasulullah SAW hinting towards Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin RA and Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin TUS states in a hadees mubarak (which all mumineen would have, atleast, heard it once),
“من بكى اوبكى اوتباكى على ولدي words is, “If a person either cries, or atleast makes a crying face in remembrance of Imam Hussain AS, Jannat is confirmed for him!”

The letters ‘م’ and ‘ن’ (together, ‘من’) displays the shaan of Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin RA and Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin TUS in innumerable instances.

Now consolidating and coming to the point, the one who does not recognise ‘من’ jeopardizes his own identity !!

Khuda ta’ala Aqa Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin TUS ni umr sharif qayamat na But TODAY IS TRULY SPECIAL because,

I can feel His (TUS) presence in my city,
I can feel His (TUS) prayers for me and my family,
I can feel His (TUS) undying love for fellow Mumineen,
I can feel His (TUS) message of itmenaan enveloping my city,
I can feel the masjids alluring with its gates wide open for His (TUS) special visit.

There is a different kind of enthusiasm and vibe in the city masjid – smiling faces and anticipating eyes. Just by mentioning the word “Qadambosi” in casual talks draws such attention from all nearby Mumineen which none of the marketing gurus can generate.

Today is truly special. The sunrise is special, the mornings are special, the evenings are special and the nights are special. Tonight’s sleep is all the more special and comforting knowing He (TUS) is in my city. Each matam on my chest is special today and every drop of tear is special today as He (TUS) is here with me. He (TUS) is listening to my heartbeat, my longing emotions, and all of my silent prayers. Our long distance relationship is not long anymore.

His (TUS) walk on the ramp showering his blessing over us is a moment worth dying for. Rather it is moment worth living an entire lifetime for. Hoping and praying for His (TUS) glimpse on me, cannot get my eyes off Him (TUS). My forehead is holding up thousand of sajadaahs waiting for a special moment when its only Him (TUS) and me and I perform all the sajadaahs I have been holding up to.

<picture></picture>

<g>

</g><polyline points="15 3 21 3 21 9"></polyline><polyline points="9 21 3 21 3 15"></polyline><line x1="21" x2="14" y1="3" y2="10"></line><line x1="3" x2="10" y1="21" y2="14"></line>

Today Shareqa is special having the opportunity to have His (TUS) feet on its land and so are all the Emirates.
